12/21 {College Girl's Fashion Project}

So, yesterday's post got me into the creative, sewing mood. Therefore, I decided to revisit an older feature of mine - College Girl's Fashion Project. I started this project last year due to the fact that I wasn't getting the maximum wear out of much of my clothing. The idea was to alter and trim and fix and add to various items in order to get more wear out of them and {bonus} save money {any college student's goal}.

 

I absolutely fell in love with this dress from the moment I saw it. However due to the downfalls of online shopping, it didn't fit right in the bodice. Therefore, I decided to take out the sleeves and alter the side seams.

It probably didn't take more than two hours of work, and I am pleased as punch with the end result!

CGFP {DIY Scalloped Shorts}

After too many days, it's time for another edition of College Girl's Fashion Project,

and today's outfit is the scalloped shorts!

The before picture.

First, I measured the projected length against a different pair of shorts.

Measure & pin.

Cut.

Stencil out the scalloped pattern.

Finished product {along with newly red hair}.

No. 334 - Project Curtains

Here is my latest bedroom project that I completed over the weekend.

My goal is to transfer little bits of myself onto the walls that surround me each day, and even though it has almost been a year already, slowly my bedroom is taking character. I love it. Check out some other projects here and here.

No. 261 - DIY Camera Strap Slipcover

For awhile now, I wanted to make a pretty slipcover for my camera strap,

and I finally got around to doing it yesterday.

Here are the step-by-step instructions.

First, measure the length of your strap and then add an extra 1".

Cut out that same length of the base material.

Cut out a strip of the ruffle material that is double the length.

Zigzag the ruffle strip and then sew a basting stitch down the middle.

Pin and gather the ruffle strip to one side of the base material.

Sew down the middle.

Sew the base material together down one side and then feed it through with a safety pin.

Feed the camera strap through.

 Finished product!

No. 254 - CGFP (Denim Vest)

Yay, College Girl's Fashion Project is back!

Today's clothing article: The Syncrude Denim Jacket

Here's what I did to it. I cut off the sleeves

 and sewed a piece of the cuff over the logo.

No. 253 - Sewing Organization

Now that I have an abundance of time on my hands (or so it seems), 

I am taking to organizing some of the less well-kept areas in my life.

Today, my project was my sewing container.

Here is what it looked like before.

First, I took some old cardboard boxes from our recycling pile.

Next, I wrapped each piece of material around it's own box.

 Then, I used an empty plastic box to wrap all my trim and zippers around.

Finally, I created a sewing basket for my countertop.

 This way I am not always digging in the big tote if I just need to sew on a button.

Here is the finished project! Organization complete!

No. 229 - CGFP (Wedding Attire) & OUAT

Time for another edition of College Girl's Fashion Project. This one is an 

alteration of a dress into a skirt I wore to Eric & Liz's wedding.

Here is the dress before alterations.

I took off a layer and the straps.

Normally, when Once Upon A Time brings in guest stars, I get worried that it's just a filler episode.

I was wrong. "Hat Trick" was an amazing episode, and it moved the overarching storyline along.

• Best Moment: I loved all of Jefferson's convincing speeches to Emma. "All worlds have magic. Some need it more." "Wake up, Emma." "There are several worlds all connected." All of his reasonings were compelling without sounding cheesy.
• Disappointing Moment: I wish Emma wouldn't have faked believing Jefferson to the extreme she did. I know her subconscious probably believes more than she is letting on, but I was somewhat disappointed when she knocked him out with the telescope.
• Evil Moment: Regina. Yep, that's it.
• Creepy Moment: The whole episode was creepy, but an intriguing type of creepy. I liked it.
• Betrayal Moment: Just when you think you've figured out Mr. Gold, he double (or triple) crosses you yet again . . .
• Fairytale Moment(s): This episode was full of historical stuff - tea parties, rabbits, turtles, old witches, Wonderland, Queen of Hearts, etc.
• Girl Power Moment: Emma & MM were kind of kick-butt in this episode.
• Suspicious Moment: What was that vault Regina got her dad out of? It looked surprisingly similar to the vault she retrieved Graham's heart from (RIP).
• Promising Moment: Emma asked to keep Henry's book. Points for Henry!
• Next Episode: We finally figure out what Snow did to the Queen!

No. 165 - CGFP

Time for another edition of CGFP (College Girl's Fashion Project)! Although this project isn't quite altering, it is still fashion on a budget! I sewed this dress over Christmas break and just haven't had the opportunity to wear it yet.
