No. 327 - DIY Canada Day Centerpiece

I know Canada Day has come and gone,
but here is a DIY for a centerpiece to celebrate our national holiday.

Supplies

-Small vase

-Glass rocks {or some other stabilizer}

-Rubber Canada Day bracelet

-Mini Canada Flags

Pour the glass rocks in the vase.

Slide the rubber bracelet over the waist of the vase.

Stick the flags in the glass rocks.

Display :)

No. 325 - 5 Things Canada

 

Here are five reasons why I am thankful for Canada.

1. Um, it's absolutely beautiful, and there is scenery for everybody. Mountains. Flatland. Rain. Snow. Shine. Lakes. Rivers. I love my country.
2. Free health care. I know, I know. With free health care, quality goes down and waiting time goes up. However, my personal opinion is that I would choose free health care over alternatives any day.
3. We are known for our multiculturalism. In fact, I would risk to say that that is one of the foundational ideologies of Canada.
4.  We have awesome affiliations. Shout out to England & Australia!
5. We are such a prosperous and rich country. How blessed am I to have grown up and spent the majority of my life in such an environment.

No. 223 - Politics

Right now, I am taking Political Science as a mandatory elective (although I don't know why they call it an elective when it's mandatory). Anyways, I am having a bit of a difficult time with it. I guess when I started the course, I figured it would be a lot about Canada, history, facts, dates, people, and systems. It is all that, but this class should have been called Political Philosophy not Political Science.

The content is very much about controversial areas such as freedom, equality, rights, morals, values, etc. This is interesting except that I am finding it very difficult to know what it expected of me in the course. When I write the answer to a midterm, I lose marks because I am not thinking outside of the box even though all the right answers are there on the page. 

Another thing that I am finding frustrating is the picture of negativity painted over Canadian politics. Now, I will be the first to admit the system is flawed. However, at the beginning of the semester, our instructor told us that the purpose of this course is so that we could be better involved and care more. However, I am finding the lack of hopefulness and right course of action disheartening. Maybe I am asking too much? I am just so thankful to live in Canada, and as far as political systems and economies go, I thought we had it pretty good.

Either way, tonight is the second midterm, so we'll see how that goes . . .

No. 147 - Bronze Medal?

I went to bed after Russia scored their sixth goal but was urgently called back out after Canada scored their fourth. What a nail-biter! Vasilevski was top-notch. So was Canada for the last 15 minutes. All I can say is that we redeemed ourselves.
