Awkward & Awesome Thursday

I don't always do this feature {via Sydney from the daybook}, but every odd Thursday, I like to pull it out and tell you what is awkward and awesome about my life :)

Awkward:
  • Walking in those bad boys at Flaxee's wedding.
  • At same wedding, changing into my dress in the backseat of a vehicle and frantically looking around to make sure no one is coming by.
  • Thinking I had locked the door at a Grassland's bathroom when really I hadn't. "Oh, hello, Jocelyn. Nice that we got that close this soon."
  • Getting told by the Air Canada representative at the airport that I was going to lose my seat on the airplane. Um what??? First time hearing that, EVER!
  • Being asked to remove my hat at airport security. "Ok, security guard, I will comply, but you run the risk of viewing the world's greasiest, dirtiest, unkept, knotted hair . . ."
  • Getting asked by five different Chapters' employees if I needed help, which I didn't at the time. You think I could find one of them when I had a question????
  • Rainy/Windy weather equals Silver-walking-to-school-while-umbrella-blows-inside-out . . . why even carry an umbrella at this point????

Awesome:
  • In Red Deer, we had the friendliest McDonald's drive-thru attendant. All of us in the vehicle were quite appreciative {and blessed}.
  • Um, . . . Flaxee's wedding :)
  • Hanging out with Tim at Flaxee's wedding.
  • Great school & tutoring sessions so far. So far, third year is rocking!
  • My rental SUV, Stephan. He was awesome.
  • Pumpkin spice lattes.
  • New music: Some Nights by fun. and 50 Ways To Say Goodbye by Train.
  • Seventeen more days until the season premiere of ONCE UPON A TIME {check out the promo below}!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. 273 - Awkward & Awesome Thursday (Music Edition)

It's Thursday, Thursday . . .
Anyways, time for another round of Awkward & Awesome Thursday with a musical twist.

Awkward:
  • So I am letting all of you in on a little secret. While I lifeguard, I tend to sing to myself. It is done very quietly and [usually] when no one is around to hear me. It is something mindless to do to pass the time, and it does not distract me from guarding. Plus for those of you who know me, I tend to be a permanent songbird, so I'm just working that into my work environment. Anyways, so two days ago, I am standing on the bulkhead doing my scans, but I forget that there is a lap swimmer literally right at my feet. So not only do I break out in song, but it isn't even a song. It is more like a "da, da, la, la, boo, bop, bo". Also, the one time I happen to not sing under my breath is . . . now.
Awesome:
  • A song that has been on my mind recently. Measure your life in love.

Happy Thursday!

No. 259 - Awkward & Awesome Thursday

This is a picture of all of us going to church on Sunday morning.
It's been a long time time since the three of us went together, so I wanted to document the moment!

Anyways, it is a Thursday again, so time for another round of

Awkward:
  • So I have been back lifeguarding for all of two days, when I got my very first dating proposal. It went like this. Guy hangs around the top of the slides for awhile and lets other people go down before him. Silver starts to get suspicious. Silver leaves the top of the slide for her rotation off. Guy's friend is walking up the slide stairs. Guy's friend asks, "Hey, are you single?" Silver, taken aback, replies, "Maybe?" Guy's friend says, "Because my friend is interested. He's just shy." Silver keeps walking down the stairs after giving a "Ahhhh" reply. Two days, people, two days.
  • I took the bus for the very first time this week. The whole catching the bus, switching buses, and getting a transfer pass was all just very confusing and awkward.
  • Carrying on a conversation via text with one Nathan all along thinking it was the other Nathan. It took a while for me to figure out I was texting the wrong Nathan.
  • Trying to compromise seating arrangements at Sunday morning church. When one member of your family wants to sit up front, another member of your family wants to sit in the back, and a third member doesn't care as long as everyone sits together . . . leads for some interesting pre-service conversation.
Awesome:
  • My first week of being done school has been nothing short of amazing. I have slept in. I have read fiction books. I have done crafts. And I have worked a job like a normal person.
  • My new job at MacIsland. Things are working out well, and I am so thankful.
  • The Lord - this week has been extra special.
  • Okay, I know it has snowed, but besides that, it really is beginning to feel like spring!
  • Running outside again. Right now my count is two, and the second run was so much better than the first.
  • Karen Kingsbury books.
Happy Thursday!

No. 210 - Streaming Reflection & Awkward/Awesome Thursday

The way the sunrise streams in our east-facing windows in the morning warms my heart.
I love the reflections and shadows it makes in our condo.

Anyways, it is a Thursday again which means another round of

Awkward:
  • I seriously need to write a book entitled Silver's Funny Memoirs of Gym Escapades. This week's awkward moment started when a staff member at the gym approached me with a prose idea they were working on. The idea was fabulous and interesting, but all that was going through my head was . . . "I don't really know you and it's 6:30 in the morning. Can we talk about this at a different time?" Oh, and I broke a bike pedal. Yep.
  • Playing middle man. I was trying to find some skates for Flaxee for the Kaos skate a couple of Sundays ago, and I think I went through 10 different people. But then I forgot to say the skates weren't for me, but for a friend. And then it's all like, well, why are you asking? It was interesting, but no matter, we found skates!
  • Telling my extremely-new-like-we've-only-known-each-other-for-10-minutes nursing instructor that she gave me too much homework. Way to go, Silver.
  • Walking in to get my hair cut for the first time at Chatters. The receptionist sits me down in the waiting area, and my hair stylist walks up to me and without saying a word just kind of holds her hands out towards my chest area. I must have looked super confused because finally she said, "Your coat, please?" Then I awkwardly tried to take it off while she assisted me.
  • At that same hair appointment, the stylist put a black facecloth over my eyes/forehead when she was washing my hair. This is the first time I have ever had that done so it was a little . . . weird??
Awesome:
  • My brother is officially here! And he's just awesome!
  • I only have 7 more weeks until I am officially finished 2nd year of nursing school and half-way through the program. Woot, woot!
  • I am doing my maternity rotation which means lots of babies and little ones <3.
  • My new hair cut.
  • Details got figured out regarding transportation and sleeping arrangements for Eric & Liz's wedding which means party in Calgary in two weeks!
  • On more wedding notes, after much stress and creative attempts, I finally figured out my outfits for the two upcoming weddings. You have no idea how much this stuff stresses me out. And it shouldn't. And I continue to pray about it . . .
  • I played keys on the worship team for The Experience for the first time two weeks ago. It was awesome!

No. 196 - Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Okay, so it's been a couple of Thursdays since I've done this, so here we go again!

Awkward:
  • Buying my new faux-glasses (flasses) and then having to explain that no, they are not prescription, and yes, it is just a fashion phase I am going through. For the most part, people understand, but every once in awhile you get the odd person who just kind of looks at me like I have two heads . . .
  • Studying for my exam last week at the Skills Centre, while there was another female student a table over (who I didn't know) who kept staring at me EVERY TIME I MOVED. I kid you not. It was somewhat uncomfortable. I didn't know I was that interesting when I studied.
  • Using the stationary bicycle at the gym last week when a guy came to use the bike beside me wearing the strongest amount of cologne ever. First of all, no one ever needs to wear that amount of cologne, and second of all, no one needs to wear cologne to the gym at 6:30 am. Needless to say, I almost fell off the bike.
  • Dad knowing more of the words in "Waking Up In Vegas" by Katy Perry than I do.
  • Using the Assisted Chin-Up Machine at the gym and flunking miserably. Use your imagination.
Awesome:
  • Finishing 294! One more course to go before I am done second year. This year is flying by.
  • The last remaining full-serve gas station in Cranbrook, B.C. Weirdest but awesomest feeling ever.
  • Empty Tim Hortons drive-throughs and Roll-up-the-Rim (pictured above). Right now, I'm   0-3.
  • Seeing my hometown, the people in it, and my old house.
  • The Hunger Games (See yesterday's blog post).
  • Two weeks ago, Glee did a Michael Jackson episode. I've mostly boycotted Glee since their second season just went off the deep end, but their cover of "Smooth Criminal" gave me goosebumps just like in the good ole' days. Mostly it's just the awesome cello playing. Check it out.

Thanks, Sydney, from The Daybook for the Awkward & Awesome Thursday!

No. 175 - Awkward & Awesome Thursday

Guess what day it is! Thursday! I got this idea from Sydney
over at The Daybook and decided to give it a try. Here we go!

Awkward:
  • Telling your nursing friend that she is in shock and she immediately assumes you are talking about medical shock. Then you proceed to explain it is just emotional shock while she is laughing at you, and your attempt to be sympathetic just kind of went out the window.
  • Getting invited to a Superbowl Game - I know it hasn't happened yet but I know my lack of football-ness/Superbowl-ness is going to provide some awkward-trying-to-fit-in comments.
  • The gym this morning. Normally when there are four ellipticals in a row and someone is on the last one, person number two shouldn't pick the middle one. This is gym etiquette. Because then I come along and have to choose an elliptical either by person number one or person number two. But you see if person number two had picked the elliptical on the opposite end, I wouldn't have this dilemma (oh the drama that goes on at 6 in the morning at Sports and Wellness).
  • Attempting to explain to the new guy at The Experience last Friday that "This is not normally how things are . . . just tonight . . . you know cause our pastor is leaving . . . and a whole bunch of other people." And by then he is just staring at you.
  • Falling on the icy roads in a skirt and tights

Awesome:
  • Political Science class on Wednesday night actually end up being a nursing student gab fest. There is like eight of us taking that course.
  • Finishing my scholarly paper! FREEDDDDOOOMMM!
  • One of the first year students I tutor tell me I'm awesome and smart. Made my day.
  • Having coffee with Shawna on Tuesday. I love girl time.
  • Feeling inspired to step up at The Experience. I am excited to see where God will take us.
  • Learning how to play Long Live and When Will My Life Begin on the piano.
  • Once Upon A Time on Sunday nights. David & Mary Margaret forever (Davaret? Marid? MMD?)
