This Is Why I Should Probably Never Meet A Movie Celebrity . . .

Remember that banquet I got to go to the other night??? I got the opportunity to shake hands with our MP, Brian Jean {two degrees of separation between me and the prime minister!!!}. Anyways, I'm pretty sure I did not make any sense in our interaction, and I couldn't shut up. But he was very pleasant and told me not to be nervous to introduce myself in the future. Haha, however, now we know that I'm all talk and no confidence :P

Here's another picture of me and the bestie from that night.

Happy Tuesday!

Awkward & Awesome Thursday

I don't always do this feature {via Sydney from the daybook}, but every odd Thursday, I like to pull it out and tell you what is awkward and awesome about my life :)

Awkward:
  • Walking in those bad boys at Flaxee's wedding.
  • At same wedding, changing into my dress in the backseat of a vehicle and frantically looking around to make sure no one is coming by.
  • Thinking I had locked the door at a Grassland's bathroom when really I hadn't. "Oh, hello, Jocelyn. Nice that we got that close this soon."
  • Getting told by the Air Canada representative at the airport that I was going to lose my seat on the airplane. Um what??? First time hearing that, EVER!
  • Being asked to remove my hat at airport security. "Ok, security guard, I will comply, but you run the risk of viewing the world's greasiest, dirtiest, unkept, knotted hair . . ."
  • Getting asked by five different Chapters' employees if I needed help, which I didn't at the time. You think I could find one of them when I had a question????
  • Rainy/Windy weather equals Silver-walking-to-school-while-umbrella-blows-inside-out . . . why even carry an umbrella at this point????

Awesome:
  • In Red Deer, we had the friendliest McDonald's drive-thru attendant. All of us in the vehicle were quite appreciative {and blessed}.
  • Um, . . . Flaxee's wedding :)
  • Hanging out with Tim at Flaxee's wedding.
  • Great school & tutoring sessions so far. So far, third year is rocking!
  • My rental SUV, Stephan. He was awesome.
  • Pumpkin spice lattes.
  • New music: Some Nights by fun. and 50 Ways To Say Goodbye by Train.
  • Seventeen more days until the season premiere of ONCE UPON A TIME {check out the promo below}!!!!!!!!!!!!

365 Photos Recap: Funniest Picture

And the winner is . . . No. 234: Changes & An Announcement!

I know the picture itself is not funny, but I found the story surrounding it hil-ar-i-ous! Basically, I posted this picture along with this huge story about how I planned to transfer to the University of Alberta in September for my final two years of school, except it was April Fool's Day! I was actually able to fool quite a few people with this post :).

No. 324 - BirthWeek Recap

Haha, so there is an ongoing theory going around our household called the birthweek {started by yours truly}. Basically, one day isn't enough time to celebrate a person's entrance into the world, so why not make a whole week out of it? Or at least, that's what it felt like, because I have awesome people in my life that make me feel special.
Here are some of the highlights of my birthweek!

Tuesday, June 26 @ 12:00am: A friend texts me thinking its my birthday . . . and so the birthweek begins.

Tuesday, June 26 @ 9:00am: A friend sends me a Facebook message thinking she missed my birthday - feeling the love already :)

Tuesday, June 26 @ 7:00pm: I get a parcel from my mom with new high heels for my birthday.

Tuesday, June 26 @ 9:30pm: My roommate takes me to the movie theatre to see Brave.

Wednesday, June 27 @ 9:00am: Birthday wishes from Taiwan; gotta love having YWAM friends!

Wednesday, June 27 @ 10:00pm: This is a funny story. Since I worked the evening on my actual birthday and Brother worked in the day, we decided at the beginning of the week that we would get up early on June 28 and have a family breakfast before Brother goes to work. So I get home from Young Adult's and ask Dad what time we are getting up the next morning. He says, "No that's on Friday that we are doing the breakfast thing". I say, "No, it's Thursday, because it's my birthday." This goes on for a few more minutes until we are both thoroughly confused. We decide that I will get up at 5:00 am the next morning to see what Brother had been planning/thinking.

Thursday, June 28 {My Actual Birthday} @ 12:00am: That same friend who texted me on June 26th texts me again :)

Thursday, June 28 {My Actual Birthday} @ 5:00am: I go chat with Brother about what is going on with the breakfast plans. Here is how the conversation goes on.
Me: So are we going for breakfast this morning?
  Brother: No that's on Friday.
  Me: Oh . . . okay.
  Brother: Hap . . . no wait, it's the 27th.
  Me: No, it's the 28th.
  Brother: Oh, well happy birthday!
Me: So do you want to go out for breakfast?
Brother: No I have to make my lunch and shower. We'll do it tomorrow.
Me: Ok *goes back to bed*.

Thursday, June 28 {My Actual Birthday} @ 10:00am: Dad makes me the most delicious cake and coffee and gives me a beautiful card and a gift.

Thursday, June 28 {My Actual Birthday} @ 11:00pm: Pizza and screamers with a friend; quality time :)

Friday, June 29 @ 5:30am: The family goes for breakfast at Humpty's. We all laugh over the funny events that transpired to get this breakfast thing off the ground. The birthweek continues.

Friday, June 29 @ 10:00am: The possibility of thunderstorms nixes the beach plans with a friend.

Friday, June 29 @ 12:00pm: That same friend comes over with . . . wait for it . . . CHALKBOARD PAINT . . . and we spend the afternoon watching chic flicks, doing manicures & pedicures, and reading magazines. So wonderful.

Thank you to everyone involved in my birthweek. Thank you for all the Facebook wall posts and texts. Thank you for the presents and cards. Thank you for spending time with me and remembering me. Everything was noted, appreciated, and will be remembered ♥

No. 319 - Bathroom Humour

Don't worry, it's clean humour.
Basically, we have a bathroom cleaning schedule that has turned into a very amusing storyboard.
Check it out.

Haha, we are a very accountable bunch around here.

No. 315 - Scrabble Story

Once upon a time, on Father's Day, the Barters sat down to play Scrabble.

It started out as most Scrabble games do . . .

. . . slightly boring :P

But then Silver got the brilliant idea to play a word in "pirate" language.

So then, we each got ONE fictional word if we could justify it.
Here is Isaac's.

And Dad's {it was something to do with the Matrix}.

Well, one fictional word wasn't enough. So we kept playing that way.
Scrabble is much more entertaining with made-up words.

In the end, Dad won with 301 points.

The End!

No. 292 - Storytime

So, Isaac and I were driving home last night from Boston Pizza when I said,
"Isaac, I need a picture for tomorrow. What should I take a picture of?"
First, he said to take a picture of himself. I said that he gets featured a lot so I wanted something else.
Then, he said to take a picture of a CD we were listening to the car, but I didn't really like that idea either.
Then, we were driving, and we saw this.

So I told Isaac to stop, because I wanted to take a picture of the stop sign.
Well, first Isaac stopped, and then he backed up, and then held up traffic, and then sped away,
but I got my picture . . . obviously.
Ineffective stop sign for the win.

No. 271 - An Intervention on Myself

Haha, beware, I am showing you a side of me today that only my family/roommates get to see.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

Most of the time my bedroom looks like this . . .

. . . however, this morning, it looked like this.

Haha, so I did an intervention on myself and returned it to its normal state.

No. 234 - Changes & An Announcement

Alright, everyone, so I know I haven't talked about this to many of you,
but I figured this was the easiest way to get this out there all at once.

For the past few months, I have been praying in regards to my future and school and money and basically where God wants me. Just over two years ago, God brought me to Fort McMurray to start the nursing program. At that time, I had no idea where I was going beyond nursing, but I packed up, moved here, and began college life. The past two years have been the best of life. I have gained friends, confidence, a deeper relationship with God, and knowledge I never dreamed I could have. However, lately, God has been speaking to me more and more about His plans for the future, and I can now say I have received further direction.

As many of you know, the Bachelor of Science of Nursing program is a four year degree, and Keyano College is affiliated with the University of Alberta. When I graduate, UofA will be the ones who put the stamp on my degree. However, like several programs at Keyano, students have the option of doing the last two years of the program at UofA in Edmonton. Now, believe me, this is something I have wrestled with a lot, but after much thought and prayer, I can say that
I will be transferring to the UofA this fall to complete my last two years of nursing school.

Yikes. That's scary that it's out there now, but also a relief because it's been on my mind for so long.

I have some extended family who recently moved to Edmonton, and they have graciously agreed to let me stay with them as I complete my education. I know this may sound sudden to most of you but . . .

Okay, if you have been reading this long and believe me,

I'm sorry.

Happy April Fools Day!

And you're all stuck with me for at least two more years :P

No. 162 - Kitchen Disaster

Yesterday, I decided to do some kitchen creativity. Normally, I feel comfortable in my cooking and baking abilities, but yesterday . . . yesterday, something was weirdly off.

So my first project were sugarless orange cranberry muffins. They were probably the least messed-up of all of my attempts. A little on the drier side but healthy nonetheless.

My real kerfuffle came when I attempted to do a roast chicken dinner complete with potato slices and carrots. First, I decided I would cook the chicken without defrosting it (apparently it can be done). Then, the chicken itself was so tiny (2-3 lbs) with barely any meat, but yet it took FOREVER to cook. That meant that my potatoes were done 45 minutes before the chicken (making them a bit on the colder side when it came time to eat) and my carrots were over-sufficiently done (think chewy).

So there is Dad, Nastassia, and I picking away at what is edible and laughing at the rest.
I sense the need for redemption in the near future.

No. 159 - You Know You're A Nursing Student When...

Sometimes on my study breaks, I look at funny nursing student forums that are all too funny and *shifty eyes* real. So I thought I'd share a few of the great ones.

You know you're a nursings student when . . .
  • You've read more Potter and Perry than Harry Potter.
  • Your hands are so dry from "proper" hand-washing and alcohol-based rubs that they are beginning to crack.
  • Your friends ask for a diagnoisis on something just to save them a trip to the doctors and are quite upset when you tell them you have no idea, and they should go and see the doctor.
  • You secretly hope your patient has high blood sugar so you can give an insulin injection.
  • You sit and watch Grey's Anatomy and House just to point out to those around you how things are NEVER like that in real life.
  • When you're referencing books for your APA paper, and you need to type the Publishing Company (eg. Mosby or Lippincott), you don't even have to look at the city in which it's been published in because you've typed it so many times! For example, St. Louis: Mosby, or Philadelphia: Lippincott.
  • You've diagnosed yourself throughout school with whatever ailment you happen to be studying at the time.
  • The night before clinical you’re so anxious you can’t get a decent night’s sleep, and until you’re 2 hours into your shift your stomach is in knots.
  • You can take a morning break, but you don’t want to because you might miss out on some big experience.
A little humour from the nursing student found somewhere in the cave of textbooks and journal articles with empty mugs and glasses everywhere. :)

No. 75 - Poke

This has been going on since about spring 2009, if I remember right. It is this stupid little game that goes beyond Facebook and that I don't even remember how it started; however, it entails everything from a rule book to me crouching down on our Tim Horton's floor, launching myself towards Chris' feet, and accidentally almost taking out an elderly lady. I have to wonder -
is it ever going to end or is anyone going to win?
